Simply stated, we are storytellers, and to help tell our stories, we wear clothing and bring display items from the era we portray. We believe there is nothing more important than to approach history as close to real-life as possible.

Buffalo Soldiers 160th Anniversary Exhibit...
Save the Date: July 28, 2026 – Celebrating 160 Years of the Buffalo Soldiers
We are honored to commemorate the 160th anniversary of the Buffalo Soldiers with a special exhibition titled “Buffalo Soldiers: Reflecting on Our Incredible Journey.” This remarkable showcase will highlight authentic uniforms and equipment used by these historic soldiers, tracing their story from their founding in 1867 through their distinguished role as instructors at West Point Military Academy in the 1940s.
Join us for a week-long celebration from July 27 to July 31, 2026, hosted at the iconic Texas State Capitol in Austin, TX. Each day will feature engaging speakers who will bring history to life through compelling presentations and discussions. On July 28, the anniversary of the original act’s signing, we will host a special program including distinguished guests, guided tours, and multiple inspiring speakers to honor this significant milestone.
In addition, we are excited to present a dynamic prelude exhibit, “Paving the Way for the 160th,” which features six fully dressed mannequins representing the Buffalo Soldiers’ legacy. This traveling exhibit will visit communities in and around Austin, Texas, aiming to generate enthusiasm, attract sponsors, raise funds, and recruit dedicated volunteers to support this historic celebration.
Join us as we honor the enduring legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers and inspire future generations with their extraordinary story.
Our Heritage Programs are designed to align with TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) standards, meeting the required curriculum for Texas students from Kindergarten through 12th grade. To make our presentations even more impactful, we also incorporate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) concepts, bridging the past with the future in fun and meaningful ways. Each program is interactive, open-ended, and thoughtfully crafted to include engaging activities, storytelling, and visual displays that bring history to life. We can set up indoors or outdoors and require no electricity or PA system, just a space and an audience. If you're a school administrator, museum curator, librarian, or a member of a civic organization, we’d love to bring history to your community. 📞 Just give us a call 512 578-6267 you supply the audience, and we’ll take care of the rest.
A Candlelight Tour: “Seeing History from a Different Light”...
At the Living History Foundation, we believe it’s our duty as interpreters to find creative, meaningful ways to share the stories of our ancestors. Our Candlelight Tour is a shining example—quite literally—of how we bring history to life in unexpected and memorable ways. Perfect for families, couples, or small groups, this unique program blends outdoor adventure with immersive storytelling. Tours typically take place at historic sites and begin as the sun sets. Guided only by the soft glow of a lantern, you'll follow a gently lit path through the evening shadows. Along the way, you’ll meet three engaging presenters, each ready to share a compelling story that connects past to present in a powerful, personal way. It’s a peaceful, thought-provoking way to experience history—under the stars, by candlelight, and through the voices of those who lived it. Looking for something different to do? Join us for an unforgettable journey through time.
Bringing History to You...
We are developing a series of traveling exhibits designed to complement our interpretive programs or stand alone as powerful educational experiences. Like traditional exhibits, they feature a compelling mix of graphics, artifacts, and interactive elements but with a key difference: they travel. These exhibits are built to allow us to take history on the road and share stories with audiences far beyond the walls of a museum. Whether set up in a school, library, community center, or special event, each exhibit delivers a rich, immersive experience without the need for permanent space. While some light assembly or configuration may be required at each location, our exhibits are designed for flexibility, easy setup, and quick dismantling, making them ideal for temporary installations in a variety of venues.
Color Guard – Honoring Tradition with Pride... Presenting the Colors is a time-honored military tradition that dates back to the founding of our nation. A Color Guard’s role is to carry and protect the National and State flags at the start of events such as athletic games, parades, civic or private ceremonies, award banquets, funerals, and more. Following the event, the team ensures the flags are retired with the proper respect and protocol. The Living History Foundation Color Guard will be composed of a dedicated four-member team:
Senior/Sergeant – Bearer of the National Colors
Sergeant – Bearer of the State Colors
Two Rifle or Saber Bearers – Symbolic protectors of the Colors
Alternate Member – Ready to step in as needed
A Color Guard brings a deep sense of dignity, honor, and respect to both military and civilian events. For its members, it fosters a strong spirit of camaraderie, discipline, and pride in representing our history and heritage. If you're interested in becoming part of this meaningful tradition, contact us today 512 578-6267 to learn more about how you can get involved.
Where The Magic Happen...
In the past, we have done programs at historical sites, local/state/national parks, schools, universities, festivals, parades, civic buildings, museums, libraries, assisted living sites, and military installations, and churches to name a few.
It is our obligation as an interpreters to find innovative ways to teach the history of our ancestors and pass their legacy on to our audance and the next generation of interpreters.
