Our Mission...
Our mission is to bring life to the (hi)story of people of color and other marginalized groups who call this nation home. Make it relevant, thought-provoking, and fun for all audiences to learn. Teach new presenters how to accurately research and interpret their stories.
Our Vision...
Our vision is to live in a world where no child should ever have to grow up questioning theirs or anyone else's heritage because they lack the knowledge of their ancestral roots.
Goals...
- Broaden the scope of presentations to include life stories from a wide range of time periods, people of color and other marginalized groups.
- Make it relevant by incorporating TEKS and STEM topics in our programs.
- Recruit and educate new presenters, especially youth, to use historical research, plan, and create vivid presentations for audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
- Raise funds to support purchase of historic clothing and props and presenter travel to presentations.
- Involve schools and communities in research and presentation activities.
About...
The Living History Foundation (LHF) is a community based organization based in Austin, TX. Our vision is to teach emerging young interpreters how to research and interpret the stories of people of color, women, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups. In doing so, prove our ancestors shared many of the same dreams and aspirations we all do today.
For the most part, these marginalized groups have been omitted from our history books, leaving their communities with a lack of cultural awareness. We believe, in this deeply divided world, we all need a basic understanding of who we are and who the person is sitting across from us. This lack of awareness hurts this nation as a whole and is why we see the same social injustice constantly reoccurring.
Someday, our children will inherit the world our ancestors had envisioned. Until then, let’s give them the tools they will need to help make this a better world for all.
